FireBreak Joins Guidewire Insurtech Vanguards Program

Oakland, CA, August 22 2024

FireBreak, a startup helping solve the climate insurability crisis, announced that the company has joined Guidewire’s Insurtech Vanguards program, an initiative led by property and casualty (P&C) cloud platform provider, Guidewire (NYSE: GWRE), to help insurers learn about the newest insurtechs and how to best leverage them.

“It’s such an honor to participate in Guidewire’s Insurtech Vanguards program,” says FireBreak co-founder Kate Stillwell. “It’s the premier channel to gain understanding on how insurers use data, which will be critical to rebuilding insurers’ confidence to re-enter wildfire-exposed regions.”

Insurtech Vanguards is a community of select startups and technology providers that are bringing novel solutions to the P&C industry. As part of the program, Guidewire provides strategic guidance to and advocates for the participating insurtechs, while connecting them with Guidewire’s P&C customers.

“Amidst the challenging market dynamics, we warmly welcome solutions like FireBreak, whose data can help unlock more underwriting appetite,” says Guidewire Chief Evangelist Laura Drabik. “Additionally, we love to see how FireBreak engages residents to do their part by hardening their homes against fire, mitigating risk for themselves and their insurers.”

Research shows that fire-hardened homes are 40% more likely to survive, yet millions have lost their insurance, even those who have hardened. FireBreak provides insurers data to identify and accept low-risk properties, and to comply with regulatory requirements for mitigation discounts and reporting.
